What is Fostering?

Looking after children who cannot live with their own families and need a safe place to stay until Social Services sort things out.

What do Foster Carers do?

Look after children in their own home until they can go back to their own family. ( this is short term fostering) or help them to move to a family that can help them until they grow up. ( this is long term fostering).

Why are children fostered?

There are lots of reasons. Things can go wrong in the child's family, their parent maybe ill or goes into hospital and there is no one to look after them. Sometimes children get hurt or their parents do not know how to look after them properly.

Who might be coming to live with us?

This will depend on what sort of fostering you decide to do as a family? This could be babies, young children, teenagers groups of brother and sister, disabled children or someone with a learning disability.

What can you do to help?

Be friendly to them and think about how it feels to live with strangers and not your family. You could explain the rules in your house. Decide what stuff/things you want to share be foster children live with you.
